Yes.

Any air bubbles in the fuel line and around back plate ?

Don't run over compressed, a harsh sound and drop in revs...

Tuning involves needle and compression screw adjustment...

Does this now mean the Merlin will run on the tank of fuel ?

Remember to tune engine by fuel needle AND compression lever. Never run it over compressed, a harsh unhappy sound.

I remember the clear plastic "squareish" fuel tanks well. I will try to postage a picture so you know what they look like.

Absolutely as above...whilst it out, make a bracket to form a mounting point for a "slide flap" that will cover the Venturi hole to restrict the hole size via an RC servo which will allow "some"...

Do you have a hot air gun ?

Perhaps with all fuel removed from the engine, warm the engine enough so it not toooo hot to handle, not tooo hot but as long as it turns over, prime and try...

So at least it's drawing in fuel then...

Set needle valve to 3 turns out from lightly nipped and retry to start engine.

3 turns out may be a bit rich so be prepared to turn it in maybe one...

Post a picture of the head area to show the whole compression T when it screws in as far as it can without real force, IE when it makes contact with the contra piston.

The fuel pipe looks like glow fuel pipe.

Perhaps a higher working hieght for the bench/engine unless you are sitting down when trying to start the engine.

Ah, yes, I forgot the Venturi is horizontal and at the back. Yes prime via exhaust ports, and ditch the "tank".
