Old enough to know better. Young enough to do it anyway.

Quoting helps with context.

Thanks, got the plan, now have to print it. Spoke to a print shop, they implied that they could print directly on balsa, not sure if this is how it is done.

Nice to get a dwg showing it assembled as I'm not able to figure out the helical spring i.e. how it assembles into the engine

As others have observed, the rear cover or backplate has been installed incorrectly. Unbolt it and insert it with the flat that has been machined in it uppermost so that the piston clears when rotated over bottom dead cernter.
As for the starter spring, remove it and throw in the bin. You do not need it for a Merlin diesel plus it will never work as you have put it on and doubt it is an original item, probably off a different engine.

I have reinserted the backplate. Using a paper gasket for the backplate now but wonder if a gasket is really necessary?

I got a GWS SLOW STICK which I think is close to APS Tomboy, problem is the kit is tailored for electric operation and I want to try it using my DC Merlin engine. Any thoughts or ideas how to do this? Thanks.

Thanks. I got a Slowstick kit which is similar to your pic. What engine is that in your pic? I have a DC MERLIN.

Missed the caption below the pic, so sorry for asking, it is a Merlin like mine. Is that Merlin RC controlled? Doesn't look like.

Short answer: Don't
Other than having wings, wheels and a fuselage-it is NOTHING like a Tomboy. Why do you persist in taking such poor decisions in your choices.? I note-on your own admission-that you are in Toronto-a simple google check reveals that there are at least several model aero clubs in the Toronto area...instead of asking inane questions on here-how about you make contact with any of these clubs and get some one -on-one help. see: https://www.maac.ca/en/clubs_by_zone.php?zone_code=L

Please Ployd, how do you control this plane - I have the same Merlin engine but can't seem to find an actuator to control it remotely
