I'm not sure, I didn't remove covering. If there are some lightning holes, I guess that they are only on the bottom side of wings.

I am going to replace the cockpit and some other parts such as dummy radial engine and wing pylons.
Where did you get your pilot from?

Ok. As much as I would like a WarbirdsPilot.com pilot, but at $152 AUS I'm thinking about just leaving the BlackHorse one in and maybe touch him up a bit.

I'm going to 3D print pilot for my P-47. Purchased some files on ebay. Last year I print him for my P-51.

No he, wont, why he should be heavy? The 1/7 scale pilot with trimmed legs was about 40g.

The side panels are not done yet, but I did some progress. I spent some time with new design of the throttle lever. The new one is more detailed and also designed for gyroscopic gunsight.

Cockpit side panels are done. The oxygen tube I will add when I fit pilot into his office. Probably I will do also some postshading on the side panels.

Actual carbon fiber or just a look alike?

Not sure. It’s sandwich of ply and a composite material of some kind. They have also sheeted the inside with some kind of covering.
the retract controller is labeled Phoenix which proves it’s from the same factory as Phoenix.

It looks they use carbon-plywood sandwich on construction now, same as Phoenix models.
But I do not see any balsa sheeting on fuselage. So, P-47 for 3D flying?

Its sheeted with something.

If its a compisite sandwich, then very strong. But, watch your rx antenna placement.

Too thick to not have some kind of sheeting ubder the iron on. Look at fuselage edges.
yes, theres lightening cutouts but ...looks real good, potentially a good structure. As long as glue joints are good, it should be strong.

What does the engine box look like?

Look at circled spot, there seems to be some thuckness to the cf on top of the ply piece.

could just be the angle.

From the picture I see on the plywood-CF sandwich.

But on the bottom among formers I see only covering.
