In the past with electron gear I’ve Hysol’d nuts to the gear legs and then screwed the doors on. It works really well and I haven’t had any issues. I’ll try to find pics..

I would prefer to have the gear doors bolt to the legs. However, when the legs are aligned so that the wheels point the correct direction, the wing surface and face of the legs is not parallel. My wooden blocks have an angled cut so that the doors are flush with the wing.
I did get a perfect fit. Although the doors are solidly attached, the whole thing seems perilous.

Thanks both. I'm going to see if I can 3d print or CNC some mount that considers that angle. Interesting little challenge.

There were slight differences between left and right sides.
I thought about 3D printing. But the blocks took less time to make than I would spent on measuring and drafting and printing. The whole thing took an hour.

Here’s the pics of one of my other planes..

I wanted them to be easily removable in case I needed to service the gear.

The electron gear is in. Had to sand rails a bit for the nose to make it fit. For the main I ended up 3d printing a part to support the gear doors and also act as clip for the brake wire. The part is held by one M4 bolt that replaces the screw that holds the spring. Happy to share the STL if anyone wants it.

Hullo,
It is clear the Ultra Flash needs significant weight in the nose. I would like to place the batteries in front of the nose gear, but that area is nearly in accessible. It would be a pain to remove the batteries for charging.
I could charge the batteries in the airplane, but this seems risky.
How are others installing batteries?

Thank you

What would that be a good product to replace the 3mm rod in the CARF kits?

Thanks--I have used the steel ones of that brand recently, but need something longer than they make.

Wow. The longest one in my UF was for the rudder and they made that size.
You can buy 3mm threaded rod in 12" or longer lengths.

‘For longer one I would suggest 3mm full tread rod, with a glued carbon Fiber tube on top…..I have done that before..

Hi David, I’m about to maiden my UF Evo and was wondering what % gain should I set the Cortex at as a safe starting point.
my throws are very conservative.

I use flight modes.. so for "Cruise mode" (normal flight) I have it set at 35%, for Take off Mode I have it set at 60% and for landing it have set at 75% (we get lots of cross winds). for landing you can dial down to 70% if your usual wind is down the runway.

I'm using Jeti system so my gyro gain is constantly adjusted based on speed (its speed through pitot tube) by15%.. the faster I fly the lower the gain (20%).. the slower I fly the higher the gain (50%).. the take off and landing gains are constant...

David I have one more question. The evo came out to 23lbs with batteries and full UAT. Do you think it will fly well with a king tech K100 G2 which has 22lbs of thrust. Planning on putting a bigger engine down the line if it works out.

thank you for your help.

Yes it will be fine .. may need a bit more runway (hopefully not grass) and you don’t need as much flap 80mm should be fine. No crow

it’s a great jet

With 80mm flaps and no crow will it glide in or will I need some power until mains are down?
Sorry for all the questions but your input is very helpful.
Thanks again

P-100 and Ultra Flash comes in and out of a 360’ grass strip (not much altitude)with no issue. Since some of the 100N turbines have as much idle thrust as other 140N turbines, I would never reduce the flap, you can keep power on, but you cannot increase drag above the maximum set….

Default Flaps

Hi Dave,
Makes a lot of sense. I have it setup with 85mm flaps, 5mm crow, 5mm down elevator and CG @ 230 Should I live it as is?

I’ve never used Crow on a UF, but I know some guys like to. Personally I would add more Flap even with the Crow, 95mm. I use approx 105mm no Crow.
Also don’t rely on just measuring each Flap travel, they rarely match like that. Stand at the nose and look down on the top surface of the two flaps. You should be able to sight an exact match slowly leaning forward and back to ensure you are seeing the same surface angle on each

Default Flaps

I will use that method to check them.

Do you think crow helps prevent tip stall or tip stall is not soothing to worry about too much with the UF?

Won’t stop it on an UF, the curved tips do that. It just changes the AOA and dumps lift.
I can land at walking pace with a std set up.
